Pre-Party Personal Safety Pact

If you’re planning on ringing in the New Year with a few cocktails then now, while you’re sober, is the time to make a pact with your friends.  I’m not referring to getting a designated driver.  That is certainly important, but I’m assuming that portion of your planning is a given.

Rather I am referring to having accountability for your personal safety.  It’s much easier to make good choices when you’re not under the influence of your favorite toddy.  Most gals know not to give out personal information to men they’ve just met.  Most women know not to get into a vehicle or move to a second location with the dreamy guy they just met.  Most ladies know not to behave like a hootchie mamma just to ensure a kiss at midnight.

Yet after a bit of alcohol, even the wisest, seemingly intelligent women can have clouded judgment.  They make less than ideal choices where their personal safety is concerned because at that moment they’re not fully capable of making the best decisions.  So now, before you go out for New Year’s Eve, make a deal with your friends that if they see you engaging in any unsafe, or potential unsafe behavior, they have permission and an expectation to intervene.  You’ve got to have each others’ back, an insurance policy of sorts.

Most wouldn’t drive a car without wearing a seatbelt; likewise you should not plan for a night on the town this New Year’s Eve without making a pre-party personal safety pact with your friends.

Have a Happy New Year … and make wise choices!
