Learn to Avoid Crimes Rather than Defend Against
Please don’t call me ‘The Self Defense Lady”. Yes I can teach self defense, but I don’t prefer to be lumped in with self defense instructors. Those who teach self defense are a dime a dozen. Many are black belts (as am I); many have studied the art long (as have I) but one doesn’t have to go very far to find a workshop on how to deliver a palm-heel strike or how to kick someone in the family jewels. There’s nothing terribly special or unique about that.
Self defense is only needed if you allow yourself to be placed into a situation where it is warranted. Rather, I prefer to be referred to as a Personal Safety and Crime Avoidance expert, instructor, facilitator, teacher, etc. Big difference. One is reactive (self defense) and the other is proactive (prevention).
You can go to any gym or trainer to learn how to lose weight. But wouldn’t you rather learn how to not put pounds on in the first place? You can go to a doctor to get a pill to feel better, but wouldn’t you rather know how to stay well from the get-go? You can go to a mechanic to get a new engine, but wouldn’t you rather take preventative measures to ensure that expensive venture is never needed?
The choice is yours – choose to learn how to minimize the damage/pain from an attack, or learn how to prevent and avoid attacks and abductions. Now do you see why I prefer not be be called The Self Defense lady? I thought so! Be safe ~
